Seed Grant Funding Available to Faculty through UGA Libraries’ Fairchild-Holcomb Awards for Innovation in the Humanities

University of Georgia faculty are invited to apply for seed grants that can fund humanities research projects that engage with the tools and resources available through the UGA Special Collections Libraries or Creative Engagement Wing at the Miller Learning Center.

The UGA Libraries’ Fairchild-Holcomb Awards for Innovation in the Humanities will fund two awards up to $5,000 each for summer salary, travel, supplies and student support costs that will assist in original research and outreach or instructional activities that share this new knowledge.

“With the Fairchild-Holcomb Awards for Innovation in the Humanities, researchers can receive funding that amplifies their exploration of our special collections or other creative tools from UGA Libraries,” said Katherine Stein, associate university librarian for special collections. “This is just the second cycle of funding, and we’re excited to see how we can partner with faculty to expand and support their humanities projects with new approaches and technologies.”

In its first cycle, awards helped kick-start a project aimed at creating educational materials related to Athens-area environmental and human histories along the North Oconee River, as well as research into prison reform in the 1960s and 1970s that held the potential for a podcast or documentary.

Funded through an endowment established by Jennifer Fairchild Holcomb and Gregory Holcomb, emeriti members of the UGA Libraries Board of Visitors, the Fairchild-Holcomb Awards are administered in partnership with the Willson Center for Humanities and Arts.

The award is open to all full-time UGA faculty and may be offered in partnership with graduate students. Interdisciplinary projects are encouraged. Learn more about the proposal requirements and review process at this link. Applications are due July 1.
