With almost every department employing students part-time, the Libraries maintains a student workforce of approximately 200. We realize that academics are a priority for you so we offer a variety of times and flexible schedules. Some departments offer the possibility of advancement to Senior Student Assistant positions that could offer you the benefits of higher pay, increased responsibility, and management experience.
If you are registered as a student at the University of Georgia then you are eligible for student employment. Job opportunities exist for you whether or not you are eligible for financial aid.
Under this policy, students from other universities or colleges are also eligible for employment as temporary workers instead of student workers.
The Libraries offer a starting hourly wage of $11.0 0 with additional compensation offered based upon the time of day worked and the level of job responsibility. Longevity increases for student assistants are contingent upon funds being available.

Some supervisors also rely on recommendations from current student assistants for potential applicants. If you have friends or classmates who already work in the library, let them know of your interest and ask that they recommend you should an opening occur.
Potential Employment Areas
Students employed in these areas are responsible for collecting books, periodicals, and other items pulled from Libraries shelves and returning the items to their proper locations; for charging items out to patrons, discharging returned items, collecting fines, and direct public service duties. Evening and/or weekend hours may be required.
Students employed in this area are responsible for microphotography, digital imaging, document transcription, editing, and data entry. Regular business hours are observed; evening and weekend hours are not required.
Students employed in these areas are responsible for assisting in unpacking boxes, sorting and labeling materials, and inputting data.
Students employed in this area are responsible for staffing the service desk, assisting patrons in locating maps and government documents, returning items to their proper locations, searching library databases, stacks maintenance, scanning materials, and various other projects as assigned. Evening and weekend hours are available but not required.
Students employed in this area are responsible for assisting patrons with research questions, searching library databases, and basic computer troubleshooting. Evening and weekend hours may be required.
Students employed in this area are responsible for the safety and security of Libraries' patrons, staff, collections, and facilities. The Security Unit is part of the Libraries' Access Services Department. Evening and weekend hours may be required.
Technical Processing Areas
Students employed in these areas are responsible for various aspects of ordering and receipt of materials requisitioned for the Libraries' collections. Examples of areas include the Acquisitions and Serials Services Department and the Cataloging Department.
Students employed in these areas perform a wide variety of responsibilities that incorporate portions of all previously listed positions. The Special Collections Libraries are housed in the Richard B. Russell Jr. Building and includes the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library, Russell Library for Political Research and Studies, and Brown Media Archives and Peabody Awards Collection.

Miller Learning Center – If you would like to apply for a position in MLC Security or as an MLC administrative assistant, request a paper application from the administrative office, MLC 373 (open 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday through Friday). Applications for administrative assistant and security positions can be turned in at MLC 373 during business hours.
