Integrated Library System Management (ILS Management)

The ILS Management section consists of two units: the Maintenance Unit and the Marking Unit. The function of ILS Management is to maintain the quality of bibliographic and holding records in GIL, the UGA Libraries' online catalog, to process added copies, added locations, added volumes, location transfers, withdrawals, possible duplicates, and to prepare materials for transfer to the Repository.
Monographs Cataloging

The Monographs Cataloging Section is responsible for both copy and original cataloging of the Libraries' print and electronic monographic materials and mixed media in all languages and subjects, including the creation of new records in OCLC and editing of records lacking Library of Congress classification numbers and/or subject headings. Original catalogers in the Section participate in NACO and the OCLC Enhance program for books and also act as resources in the area of authority control, establish series authority records, and provide NACO training as needed.
Music Cataloging

The Music Cataloging Section is responsible for both original and copy cataloging and classification of notated music, musical sound recordings, and video recordings in all languages, including input of new records into OCLC and editing of existing records. The section also performs most physical processing of music materials. The Section Head participates in the NACO Music Project, a NACO funnel for contributing music-related authority records to the Library of Congress name authority file.
Serials Cataloging

The Serials Cataloging Section is responsible for original, complex, and copy cataloging of serials in all formats and languages, including input of new records in OCLC and editing of existing records in OCLC and GIL. The section also edits catalog records for serials when they undergo title changes or other bibliographic changes. The section is responsible for adding and revising serials holdings information, withdrawing serials, and transferring serials between locations. The Serials Cataloging Section participates in the CONSER program.
Special Collections Cataloging

The Special Collections Cataloging Section is responsible for providing original and copy cataloging for print manuscripts and published materials housed at the Special Collections Libraries, including rare books, serials, artists’ books, and broadsides, in multiple languages, formats, and time periods. The Section also produces MARC finding aid records to provide OCLC/catalog access to our archival collections. The Special Collections Cataloging Librarian serves as a resource person in the area of special collections cataloging, both within the Cataloging department and in other areas of the Libraries.
