Film Screening, Thumbs Up For Mother Universe
The Walter J. Brown Media Archives & Peabody Awards Collection welcomes Peabody Award winning documentary film producer George King to Athens for a screening of his newest film, “Thumbs Up for Mother Universe- Stories from the Life of Lonnie Holley.” The screening is free and open to the general public as well as UGA faculty, students, and staff.
Family Day: Summer Reading
Join the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library for an afternoon of crafts, storytime, and performances by Rebecca Sunshine Band and the Wooten Woopets on Saturday, June 17, 2023, from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM. This event is free and open to the public. Free parking for off-campus visitors is available in the Hull Street Deck.

Family Day: Object Lessons with GMOA
“Object Lessons in American Art: Selections from the Princeton University Art Museum” pairs works together in fresh ways that start new conversations about American history and culture. Explore the exhibition, play Art Cart games in the galleries and create a work of art to take home in the Michael and Mary Erlanger Studio Classroom. Staff from UGA’s Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library will also share objects from their collection that tell stories about Athens.
Women's History Month Keynote Address, "Stories of Lumbee Women"
Malinda Maynor Lowery is the Cahoon Family Professor of American History at Emory University. She is a historian, scholar and documentary film producer who is a member of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina. She has written two books, over 20 book chapters or articles and has published essays for popular audiences in places such as The New York Times.
Escape the Gallery Game Night
Join the Hargrett Library for an interactive escape room experience in our very own galleries! Explore Hargrett's newest exhibit, "Freemasonry in Georgia: Ideals, Imagery, and Impact," and unearth the secret clues secured within by Escape the Space, Athens' local escape room company. Do you have what it takes to be a #PuzzleMaster and decode the hidden message?
