Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library

We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Ada Cheng, a.k.a The Renegade Ada Cheng, back to UGA to share her latest performance piece with us. The Trouble with My Hair: Coloring, Cutting, and Coming into Who I Am is an intimate exploration of Cheng's gender, sexual, and racial identities and boundary-making through her evolving relationships with her hair and her stylists. Blending theatrical storytelling and narrative art, Ada Cheng playfully brings the audience on an emotional and thought-provoking journey of self-discovery and self-love through her struggles with her hair.

Join the UGA Special Collections Libraries on Tuesday, February 24th at 6:00PM for Fashioning the Classic Bride with Anne Barge Clegg. A reception and exhibition tour will follow in the hallway and galleries. 

On Thursday, February 12th, at 5pm, join the Special Collections Libraries for an Exhibits Happy Hour, celebrating two new on-view exhibits! The Hargrett Library will be unveiling "Fashioning the Classic Bride: The Life and Career of Anne Barge", which displays more than thirty bridal gowns and accessories from the Anne Barge brand, as well as early sketches, photographs, documents, and more that tell the story of her lasting contributions to the fashion industry. On Tuesday, April 14th at 6pm, join the Hargrett Library and Walter J. Brown Media Archives for a free screening of Mize, a documentary by Hal Jacobs that goes behind the scenes to see what North Georgia author Jerry Grillo discovered about Baseball Hall-of-Famer Johnny Mize. 

Following the screening will be a discussion with Jacobs, as well as a reception with light refreshments. 

Free parking can be found in the Hull Street Deck after 5pm. 

The UGA Special Collections Libraries in conjunction with the Athens Clarke-County Library are pleased to present a discussion of the new book, “Bragging Rites: College Football’s Disputed Titles”, with its author Dr. Keith Gaddie, Al and Dawn Hoffman Chair of the American Ideal and Professor of Political Science at Texas Christian University. Dr. Gaddie will discuss this book and the stories surrounding decades of disputed college football national championships.
