The annual display of the UGA Charter will be January 23rd through 27 to mark Founders' Day on Jan. 27, the anniversary of the document's signing. To protect the ink of the parchment manuscript from further fading it is displayed to the public only once a year in the Hargrett Library of the Richard B. Russell Building Special Collections Libraries.
Events - Hargrett
The only surviving copy of the Confederate Constitution, a part of the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library, will be displayed. Due to its fragility the document is only exhibited one day per year. An exhibition examining slavery will be on view through Spring Semester.
Five Georgia writers, including humorist Roy Blount Jr. and political commentator Bill Shipp, will be inducted into the Georgia Writers Hall of Fame. Being inducted posthumously are Brainard Cheney, Katharine Du Pre Lumpkin and James Alan McPherson.
The Georgia Writers Hall of Fame events are part of UGA’s Spotlight on the Arts festival celebrating the visual, literary and performing arts at UGA.
