Facilities Coordinator
Job Summary

The Night Facilities and Security Coordinator for the Miller Learning Center is responsible for providing administrative, logistical and security support to facilitate the work of all facets of the building. This includes but is not limited to monitoring the access control and alarms for building operation, supervision, scheduling, and payroll of student security staff, communication of building or security issues with appropriate campus units, assisting in the coordination of events, support of special events and projects as they arise, and various administrative tasks in support of the building operations. It is expected that incumbent will interact regularly with key personnel, such as the building partners (CTL and EITS), Campus Reservations, UGA Police Department, and Environmental Safety Division.

This position reports to the Assistant Department Manager (Facilities and Security Manager) of the MLC; work is performed independently on the basis of a general assignment of the responsibilities. The Night Coordinator is required to work evenings/overnights (Thursday-Sunday) from 10:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. during 24/7 building operation in Fall and Spring semesters, and daytime hours during intersession and summer (May-July). This position requires reliability and trustworthiness, the exercise of quick, independent, and sound judgment and independent initiative in applying resolution to emergency situations that arise.

This is a full-time, benefits eligible position.

Duties and Responsibilities




Maintains a safe environment by monitoring the building and grounds, responding to emergency situations, monitoring and responding to the alarm systems, participating in the development and coordination of emergency plans, and handling related issues and problems according to departmental and university safety and security policies.



Supervises night security assistants by training, scheduling, assigning and evaluating work; monitoring and preparing student paperwork and timecards.


Interprets and implements Libraries and University policies and procedures within purview and ensures that all work performed is in accordance with these policies and procedures.


Maintains and submits accurate, detailed and professional paperwork and reports, including UGA Police incident reports.


Assists daytime Facilities and Security Coordinator and Assistant Department Manager with late-ending or early-starting events as requested.



Keeps the Assistant Department Manager, Director of the Miller Learning Center Library and other appropriate personnel informed of MLC related issues by communicating and interpreting appropriate policies and procedures, concerns and issues.

Maintains flexibility and awareness of changes and needs in the department by assuming similar duties and responsibilities as assigned.


Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualificaitons.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and/or Competencies
  • Basic knowledge of building operations and support.
  • Familiarity with security procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to make successful, professional and positive contacts with officials, students, and the general public.
  • Demonstrated ability to hire, train and supervise staff.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Skill in using software packages for office use, statistics generation, or event and classroom scheduling.
  • Ability to effectively plan, organize and prioritize routine and special project work.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to deescalate situations and bring about a peaceful resolution desired.
  • Ability to productively balance multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Basic knowledge of minor maintenance tasks and ability to use hand tools.
Preferred Qualifications

• Work experience on a University Campus preferred.
• First aid/CPR certification preferred.
• Experience with security systems and/or camera surveillance systems desired.
• Two years supervisory experience, preferably in a campus setting preferred.
• Two or more years of security, police or military experience preferred.
