Lecture, The Mysteries of Freemasonry Brought to Light: The Origins and Some Discoveries of the Exhibition

Join curator Alisa Luxenberg for a lecture about Hargrett's newest exhibit, "Freemasonry in Georgia: Ideals, Imagery, and Impact." The lecture will introduce the subject of Freemasonry, the origins and challenges of the exhibition, and some of the fascinating discoveries made during the research undertaken for the catalogue accompanying the show. 

Alisa Luxenberg earned her doctorate in Art History at the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University, and taught at the University of Georgia from 1999 to 2022. Prior to UGA, she taught at the American University of Paris, Washington University in St. Louis, Ohio State University, and Case Western Reserve University. She has published two monographs, co-edited a volume of essays (on freemasonry and the visual arts), and authored numerous scholarly articles, catalogue essays, and book and exhibition reviews. She is the recipient of numerous grants and awards in the U.S. and abroad, including postdoctorate fellowships at Princeton University and the National Gallery of Canada. Her areas of specialization are eighteenth- and nineteenth-century French and Spanish art and the early history of photography.
