The Student Learning Center is unique – no other building at
any University integrates classrooms and library space as this building
will. Moreover, it is the anchor under the campus master plan.
In a short time, this building will be the center for learning for students
at the University of Georgia, it will be a focal point in their collegiate
lives and, in many ways, it will define the University of Georgia for the
next century. Many, if not most, of their classes will be taught
in the Student Learning Center. The largest concentration of public
access computers will be here and rooms will be provided where students
can work on collaborative projects.
This is truly a cooperative endeavor – especially among the Libraries,
University Computing and the Office of Instructional Support and Development
as we all work together to support the faculty and the students.
All of us who were involved in planning this building cannot wait for
it to open – it will transform the way we work, the way faculty teach,
and the way students learn – and I hope everyone will come
to share our excitement as the building rises over the coming years.
