How are new books and journals selected for the Science Library?
Librarian subject specialists in the Science Collection Development unit within the Science Collections and Branch Services Department constantly scan and evaluate new titles even prior to publication, to make sure that the books and journals selected are pertinent and suit the needs of the faculty, staff and students of the University of Georgia. We welcome suggestions for additions to the collections at any time.
Responsibilities include assessment and acquisition of materials in both traditional and electronic formats, replacement of missing or damaged materials, and weeding of unneeded items. Librarian bibliographers select materials from a wide variety of resources they access worldwide.
A skilled bibliographic searcher assists in the minutia of the search and order process. We encourage patrons to submit requests for additions to the Science Library's collections.
