About the Science Library

The Science Library at the University of Georgia supports collections for research and instruction in the basic and applied sciences. Located on south campus in the Boyd Graduate Studies building, the Science Library opened in 1968 near Ag Hill as part of the strategic development of the science buildings complex. The collection presently has over 750,000 volumes and over 3,000 print journal titles with access to 19,000 full-text electronic journals on all subjects through the Electronic Journal Locator. The Science Library houses a broad range of materials in agriculture, biological and life sciences, human and veterinary medicine, mathematics, computer science, physical sciences, engineering and technology.

Librarians and staff provide reference service and consultation with faculty, staff and students, assistance with circulation, photocopy and print services, and selection and acquisition of science materials. There is a small collection devoted to general leisure reading. There are more than 50 networked workstations on the second floor dedicated to public use in research and instruction.

The Science Library's staff also supports library research facilities at the College of Veterinary Medicine, the Agricultural Experiment Stations in Griffin and Tifton, Skidaway Institute of Oceanography in Savannah, Sapelo Island Marine Institute near Darien, and the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory at Tifton.

The foyer in the Boyd Graduate Studies building is home to the fossilized remains of a giant North American ground sloth.
