Russell Forum for Civic Life in Georgia Public Policy Institute

The National Issues Forums (NIF) discussion model has strong connections to the University of Georgia. After several years of the UGA PPI taking place in Atlanta at the Jimmy Carter Library, in 2006 the Richard B. Russell Library, a political archives and center for research and study of politics and policy, in conjunction with the Roosevelt Institution at the University of Georgia, part of a national network of student think tanks dedicated to influencing national policy through the avenues of public policy and advocacy, collaborated to provide the Russell-Roosevelt Policy Institute. In 2008, the Russell Library established the Russell Forum for Civic Life in Georgia, a major civic engagement initiative to educate, engage, and collaborate with citizens and organizations to enrich civic life in the Athens area and around the state of Georgia using a model of deliberation. In 2009, the RFCLG and partners are pleased to offer a 2-day public policy institute that will provide training in convening, moderating, and issue framing.

This institute fosters civic engagement and deliberation among diverse audiences and gives participants the skills to tackle important issues in their own communities. The Russell Library maintains a library of materials related to developing civic engagement programming that are available to individuals and groups interested in developing civic education programming.
