GENERAL INFORMATION

Did you know Georgia’s newest cultural destination is right here at UGA?

In 2012, the Russell Library opened state of the art exhibition galleries in the new Richard B. Russell Building for Special Collections Libraries. Featuring some of the most significant and treasured materials from the collections, the galleries offer a glimpse into Georgia’s storied political past.

Dedicated to sharing information about Georgia’s modern political life and culture, the Russell Library develops exhibits that engage and inspire visitors in a dynamic conversation with the past, present, and future. Visitors can explore interactive kiosks with access to oral history interviews, historical film, video, and sound recordings. Or, look for familiar faces from the state’s political history in Art Rosenbaum’s mural “Doors.” And, no matter what the featured exhibit, there are opportunities throughout the gallery to view documents, artifacts, and photographs that describe political life and events in the state. Visitors will discover a new world through the Russell Library Galleries.

The curatorial staff at the Russell Library researches, develops, and fabricates exhibits in consultation with scholars and community experts. The Russell Library also develops online exhibits to complement exhibits on physical display in the gallery space.
