This workshop pairs with the moderator training workshop and teaches participants how to create effective discussion guides using the National Issues Forums model.
Participants who complete this workshop are able to:

Determine if an issue is appropriate for deliberation.

Identify the different elements that comprise issues books or maps.
-
Identify “the problem behind the problem” for public issues and better recognize the values that drive citizens' concerns.
-
Practice developing a framework for discussion that promotes deliberation.
-
Explore the importance of testing the validity of a framework before the issue is available for public discussion.

Individuals interested in forming issue-based discussion groups or action committees

*A lecture related affordable housing will take place Friday evening at the Richard B. Russell Library at 7 p.m. and will be followed by a reception for an exhibit of images related to affordable housing in Athens and surrounding counties, developed in conjunction with the PPI
