It seems so
easy. Someone else has done all the hard work of research, and
your paper is due tomorrow. So what if you just copy a passage or
two out of a book or journal article and claim it as your own?
It's easy to
fall into this trap; however the consequences of your actions can
be devastating. The Office of the Vice President of Instruction
has a website which describes UGA's Academic
Honesty Policy. Within this policy is a description
of plagiarism as well as a description of some of the sanctions
that can be enforced with students--the most severe of which is
"expelling the student from the University."
Copyright has
also become an interesting subject with the growth of the Internet.
