PsycINFO
is a database on GALILEO that provides a quick way to find peer reviewed
journal articles online or in paper journals in the UGA Libraries. The
basic search screen is shown below.

What
are peer reviewed journals?
Articles submitted to peer reviewed journals are sent to a group of
recognized experts in the field for evaluation. These experts will recommend
for or against publication based on the importance of the subject material,
the originality and currency of the research, the validity of the conclusions
drawn from the supporting evidence, and other factors. Peer review is
used by scholarly publishers to ensure that the material they publish
is of the highest quality. Publications that practice peer review are
also known as "refereed" journals.
Why
use PsycINFO rather than Google or Yahoo?
PsycINFO is the most authoritative source for finding psychology articles
in 1,700 journals. 97% of the journals indexed in PsycINFO are peer reviewed.
Searching Google or another search engine will find resources that have
not been reviewed by experts in the field, may be trying to sell you something,
or may be biased or incorrect. If a Google search does find some citations
to useful articles it will probably not link to full text of the article
without a password.
