Many of the UGA Libraries' resources are available online from off-campus through the UGA Libraries web site including:

GALILEO@UGA - a collection of over 500 databases providing article abstracts, full text articles, online books, etc.

  1. Get the GALILEO off-campus password
  2. Go to the GALILEO@UGA home page and type in the password when prompted
  3. Databases requiring additional steps to access have links to additional information
  4. A handful of databases are available on campus only

Electronic Journal Locator - a database of links to thousands of online journals and articles.

  • Search for a journal by name
  • Search for an article using some or all of the citation information (journal name, volume, page numbers, year, etc.)
  • If full text is not available online, the results page offers a link to search automatically in GIL for the journal in hard copy.

Google Scholar on the Libraries' home page

  • Find thousands of articles and papers, including those in several GALILEO@UGA databases.
  • Journal articles in Google Scholar may be available in full text online. Click on the "Find It @ UGA" link to check for full text. Note: You need to access Google Scholar from our home page to get the link.

Course Reserves

  • Search the GIL@UGA Catalog to access reading materials that your instructor has put on Reserve. Many are now available online in full text.
  • If an article is available electronically, there will be a "full text online" link. Your instructor will give you the password to access the article.

Electronic Books

Access to thousands of online, full-text books. Some sites require the GALILEO password.

Google Book Search

Search the full text of books online. If a book is still under copyright, Google will display information about it, and often a few sample pages. If it is out of copyright, you will be able to page through the entire book. Check 'full view books' to limit to books available in full text. Use the "Find this book in a library" link on the book's display to check the book's availability at UGA.

GIL, the UGA Libraries Catalog, lets you:

  • Find the location of books, journals, etc. in the UGA Libraries [Show me...]
  • Access Course Reserves from the GIL home page
  • View your library account and recall/renew items.
  • Request Items from Library Repository
  • Request Items from other Georgia Libraries:
    • If you don't find your book in GIL, or if it is checked out, click on the "GIL Universal Catalog" link at the top of the screen.
    • Search for your book. When you have the record for your book on the screen, you can click on "Express Request" at the top of the screen to get it sent here from another library. You should get it within a few days.
