Why use a thesis or dissertation?

Use a thesis or dissertation to find detailed original research, data, or literature reviews on a specific subject. Information in a thesis or dissertation is usually not as current as information in articles.

How do I find a thesis or dissertation?

Option 1: Find recent UGA theses and dissertations online:

Option 2: Find the print versions of UGA theses and dissertations using the library catalog GIL

  1. From the GIL home page choose the Keyword Search option.
  2. Search using either the keyword thesis or dissertation and other keywords as a Keyword Anywhere search [Show me...]

Option 3: Find dissertations completed at U.S. schools using Digital Dissertations (indexed 1861-present, abstracts 1980-present, full text 1997-present) [off-campus access]


Digital Dissertations provides UGA users free preview copies of the first 24 pages of many dissertations 1997-present. It is possible to purchase copies of dissertations online through this database. If you wish to borrow dissertations for free from other institutions see I need it the Library doesn't have it .

Option 4: Find online dissertations completed at U.S. or foreign schools

1. The Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (NDLTD) is a federation universities that provides some full text access to dissertations.
