SIRS Discoverer is an award-winning general reference resource for beginning learners and researchers in grades 1-9. The database includes editorially-selected, full-text articles and images from over a thousand domestic and international newspapers, magazines, and government documents. The images include graphics, photos, charts, and maps, including U.S. historical, world historical, and outline maps. SIRS Discoverer also offers supplemental curriculum and learning materials, including an educator's guide, middle- and elementary-level student workbooks, citation guidelines, research strategy worksheets, and more through the Educator's Resources link.

Database Information and Guides

SIRS Researcher is a general database of selected full-text articles on social, scientific, health, historic, economic, business, political, and global issues. In addition to full-text articles, the following are also available: Today's News, Almanac Excerpts, and Maps of the World. Many articles are accompanied by graphics, including charts, maps, diagrams, and illustrations. Content is aligned to state standards, and articles include Lexile scores to match readers with articles at their reading level.

Not all dissertations from all participating universities are included in Dissertation Abstracts. Coverage depends on the date a university began online contribution of their abstracts to University Microfilms International (now ProQuest). Also, for many European universities the contribution of abstracts was the responsibility of the student.

ProQuest Digital Dissertations offers subscribers access to dissertations in digital format starting with titles published from 1997 forward. Users affiliated with participating doctoral-granting institutions may download for free PDF copies of disserations granted by their own institutions (but not from institutions other than their own). The free PDF downloads are available only from on-campus computers. Free preview copies of the first 24 pages of many dissertations (1997- ) are available to all users of the database. NOTE: It is possible to purchase copies of dissertations in a variety of formats online in the ProQuest Disserations & Theses database. However, if you wish to borrow disserations from other institutions, please contact the Interlibrary Loan Department.

eBooks at EBSCOhost, formerly known as NetLibrary, provides access to electronic books (eBooks), including reference books, scholarly monographs, publications of many university presses, and consumer books that have been converted into digital format. It is possible to perform full-text searches of a single eBook, search thousands of volumes simultaneously, browse topic categories, or read eBooks directly online. There is currently no checkout period for eBooks (at EBSCOhost).

Users can create a My EBSCOhost account in order to use personalization tools, including creating a Favorites list, but a personal account is not required for accessing eBooks through the GALILEO interface.

The Federal Interagency Forum on Child and Family Statistics, or the Forum, is a working group of Federal agencies that collect, analyze, and report data on issues related to children and families. The Forum has partners from 22 Federal agencies as well as partners in private research organizations.

This website offers easy access to statistics and reports on children and families, including: family and social environment, economic circumstances, health care, physical environment and safety, behavior, education and health. The Forum fosters coordination, collaboration, and integration of Federal efforts to collect and report data on conditions and trends for children and families.

The NAEP Data Explorer, from the U.S. Department of Education, provides national and state results in 10 subject areas, including mathematics, reading, writing, and science. Results have been produced for the nation and participating states and other jurisdictions since 1990, and for selected urban districts (on a trial basis) since 2002.

The Long-Term Trends section provides national mathematics and reading results dating from the 1970s.

The site also offers grade 12 assessment results from the 2005 mathematics and science assessments for students who graduated high school in 2005. Results are available for transcript data such as course-taking and grade point average.

With the NAEP Data Explorer (NDE) you can create statistical tables, charts, and maps to help you find answers. Explore the results of decades of assessment of students' academic performance, as well as information about factors that may be related to their learning.
