Tips for looking up books at UGA

GIL Tutorial :gives a lesson on how to use GIL

Here is a brief summary of how to look up books:

The libraries' catalog (list of books) is called GIL.
1. From the libraries home page (http://www.libs.uga.edu), click on "GIL Catalog".

2. Click on "Keyword Search".

3. Type in your keyword(s). Choose "all of these", "any of these", or "as a phrase" (Directly to the right of the keyword you typed in.)
**Choosing different keywords will give you different results.
For example: "science fair" and "science project" are different searches. Some of the books may be the same, but different books will be in each search.
Also choosing "as a phrase" may give different results. When 'as a phrase' is selected, the keywords will be next to each other and in the order you typed.
"All of these" will find records that contain all of the keywords, but in no particular order.

4. Click "Go" to search the catalog.

5. You've found some books. Click on the title to find the location. Writing down the floor, call number, and title will help you locate this item.

If you need any help looking up books on your topic, or finding books once you've looked them up, please come to the reference desk and ask for help.
