The Internet Movie Database (IMDb) search screen will help you find titles, cast and crew members, or characters from movies and television. In their history section, they say "Our efforts remain dedicated to being not only the best, but the most useful entity on the internet for both hardcore and casual movie fans." You can also get the dates and locations of film festivals.
At the National Film Preservation Foundation, you can find information about basic film preservation and films that have been preserved.
