Policies

Circulation

In general, materials from the Media Department do not circulate. The exceptions are:

Interlibrary Loan

Video recordings (VHS, DVD, or laserdisc) are not available through Interlibrary Loan.

Music recordings are typically located at the Music Research Library. Check GIL for exact locations.

Patrons

All library patrons may use materials in the Media Department. University of Georgia students, faculty, and staff must present a valid University of Georgia identification card. Members of the general public must present a valid picture identification (examples include: a driver's license or a passport; an employer-issued picture ID is not sufficient).

No unsupervised persons under the age of 17 may use the Media Department facilities. During peak use times, UGA students and faculty receive priority.

Access

All Media Departemnt holdings are listed in GIL.

Reserves

Faculty may place their own video and sound recordings on reserve in the Media Department. Reserve materials are for use in the Media Department only, on a first-come, first-served basis. Groups can be accommodated. For more information, see Reserves under Media Department Collections.

Circulation for Faculty and Graduate Students

Most materials from the Media Department do not circulate. However, faculty and graduate students with faculty permission may borrow videorecordings for educational use.

We highly recommend that you check with the Department at least 24 hours prior to the time you need to use any materials in order to guarantee the availability of the items, as another patron may have scheduled the item for use.

Also, media materials are fragile and certain items may be unavailable due to repair or replacement issues.

Videorecordings (videocassettes, DVDs, and laser discs).

Up to three (3) videorecordings may be borrowed at a time. Videorecordings must be returned within 24 hours of checkout--or by closing on the days when the Media Department closes early.

Videorecordings must be returned to the Media Department on the seventh floor of the Main Library and not left in the book drop. Do not leave a videorecording in your car or in the sun!

DO NOT RETURN ANY MEDIA DEPARTMENT MATERIALS VIA CAMPUS MAIL!!!!

Failure to return a videorecording cancels any further borrowing privileges and the following will be applied as necessary:

Fines of $3.00 per day will be charged for each overdue item, and no other materials may be checked out until all overdue items are returned and fines cleared. Borrowers are responsible for the replacement cost of damaged materials. Faculty are responsible for the items borrowed by their graduate students. The Libraries' Access Services may suspend all library privileges and/or block class registration for failure to return materials and/or meet financial obligations.
