Sesame Street turns 35!!!
>
Big Bird is turning 35!!
And the Peabody Awards Collection is ready to celebrate!

Please join us on Wednesday, November 10, 2004 at 7:00 pm
in room 148 of the UGA Student Learning Center for a screening of the premiere episode of the Peabody-Award winning children's television program Sesame Street on the 35th anniversary of its original broadcast on PBS.
When the Children's Television Workshop presented Sesame Street to the Peabody Board, they described it as "an experiment to determine whether the techniques proven successful in commercial television can be used effectively in teaching preschool children." The experiment was a success, and for the past 35 years, Big Bird, Burt, Ernie, Cookie Monster and the other residents of Sesame Street have been introducing children to numbers, letters, and social skills through extensively researched and carefully presented lessons and stories.
In this series introduction,
Gordon introduces Sally, who has just moved to Sesame Street, to her new neighbors. Susan and Sally watch a film about a dairy farm and learn where milk comes from. Bert and Ernie introduce a lesson about washing. Sally also meets Big Bird, Kermit and Oscar the Grouch. Live, puppet, and animated sequences teach about the numbers 2 and 3 and the letters E, S and W. A clip of children playing follow-the-leader teaches the concepts of going over, under, and around.
Skunks and Snakes on a Slide in a lesson
about the letter S from the premiere episode of the series.
