Miscellaneous Educational Films

In 1994, a campus building was demolished which had held a collection of films previously used and circulated by the Georgia Center and the Art Department. At that time, those films came to the Libraries for storage. These educational films date back to circa 1930s/'40s through circa 1970s. Some of them were created on campus by the Georgia Center/WGTV production teams, and some were purchased from educational film distributors such as McGraw-Hill and Encyclopedia Brittanica Films (EBF). Many of the films were created as industrial and training films during World War II and pertain to wartime production and industry. Some are travelogue films copied from silent films of the 1920s, and some pertain to careers training.

Copyright on the films may reside in UGA or in one of the production companies which made the films. Condition of the films is generally good, but due to the age of some films, may be quite poor and may be unviewable for this reason. Where possible, in-house/research use copies may be made for campus viewing. A list of titles available in a PDF below. Some films have multiple copies. The films are currently stored offsite and may require 2 to 4 days notice to retrieve, evaluate and transfer (where possible). Please contact the Archivist for assistance in viewing any of these films.
