Richard Nixon was a complex man. He led an interesting and eventful life. The culmination of his professional career was his election to the presidency in 1968. When he took the oath of office on that January day in 1969, he assumed responsibilities that George Washington never could have dreamed of in 1789 when he became our first president. Washington set the pattern, but each of his successors changed the office of the president in some way, large or small. |

In order to fully understand Nixon's life, and in particular to understand his political career, it is important to first understand the American political system and to know something about the men who preceded Nixon in the presidency. It is with this in mind that we have designed the quizzes that follow. The first quiz will test your knowledge of the government of the United States. If you were born during the Carter administration (1977-1981) or earlier, you will probably know the answers to most of the questions in this quiz. The second quiz will test your knowledge of the presidents. If you were born in the George Bush administration (1989-1993) or earlier, you will probably like this quiz. Finally, the third quiz will test what you know about Richard Nixon. If you were a member of CREEP, or remember the Pumpkin Papers, or if you never heard of either of these but would like to find out what they were, then this is the quiz for you! Some of the questions may not format properly in Netscape Navigator. We recommend that you use Internet Explorer to view this site. We are sorry for the inconvenience this requirement may cause. To learn more about Richard Nixon, please visit the Nixon/Gannon Interviews site (now under construction), part of the Walter J. Brown Media Archives and Peabody Awards Collection site at the University of Georgia Libraries. |
