These two town filmsabout Chattahoochee’s citizens were made by Mr. Earl Langley ten years apart. Decades later, a local citizen screened the film and decided it should be put out on VHS and distributed to preserve the past of the town. After an article about UGA Media Archives appeared in regional newspapers, Mr. Norman James of Chattahoochee sent the two tapes to us. The films show many local citizens of Chattahoochee and narration over the footage gives names and pertinent facts about those shown. Subjects include staff at the Florida State Hospital, a local baseball team playing a game, gas station/garage employees, a Boy Scout troop, railyard employees, churches, etc. The films are similar to other town films shot by itinerant filmmakers from the 1920s through the 1950s, but these exhibit a more personal touch since Mr. Langley knew the townsfolk. The focus of the tape is on the individuals being named. The 1958 film has portions of low contrast and scratches which slightly affect viewability.
