Aerial Photography in the Map Library

The Map Library maintains the largest collection of aerial photography of the State of Georgia outside of the National Archives. The paper collection consists of over 230,000 photos from the late 1930s through the late 1980s. The aerial photographs in the Map Library were produced by a variety of state and federal agencies, including the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Geological Survey, as well as for projects done by academics and private companies.

Select a county from the list below for detailed information about the Map Library's late 1930s through the late 1980s holdings. Also, please consult the Legend for Aerial Photography Holdings for information about the fields and codes used on the county holdings pages.

The Georgia Aerial Photographs database provides online access to approximately 50,000 digitized black and white aerial photographs and indexes of select counties of the State of Georgia from the Map Library's paper collection.

Post-1980s aerial photography and imagery of the State of Georgia can be downloaded for free from the Georgia GIS Clearinghouse, a division of the Georgia Spatial Data Infrastructure (GSDI).
