Classes and Tours

To assist with our workflow, classes and groups are asked to schedule tours with a staff member at least a week in advance. Please contact us via phone, mail or e-mail for further information.

Computers and Scanners
Public computers are available to Map Library patrons for research purposes. Ethernet jacks are available for patrons to access the Internet from a laptop computer; patron must supply their own Ethernet cable. Please note that wireless access is NOT available in the Map Library.
Two scanners are available: an Epson 11 x 17 flatbed and an HP large format sheet-fed. The 11 x 17 flatbed scanner is self-service; please see the Copy, Scanning and Printing Services section below for information about large format scanning. Scanned images may be saved to disk, USB drive, CD-ROM, or sent via e-mail; patrons must provide their own media for transporting images. Please note that due to our location the Map Library uses DSL for Internet access; it may not be possible to e-mail files larger than 2-3MB.

Services for Non-UGA Users
All Map Library services are available to UGA students, staff and faculty as well as state, regional, national and international researchers.
Non-UGA users can request copies of maps from the Map Library's collection through Interlibrary Loan. Most maps can be found through GIL, UGA's online catalog. If you cannot find a particular map in GIL, please contact a Map Library staff member. Please note that large format scanning and/or printing costs will apply.
Non-UGA users can request copies of aerial photographs directly from the Map Library for $5 per request (a request consists of a single site) plus the cost per photocopy. Users will be asked to provide as much information as possible to help staff members locate their site, including location address, county name, nearby roads or landmarks, etc. If the requested materials can be provided, copies will be sent following receipt of payment by check or credit card (the Map Library does not accept cash). Before you request aerial photographs please visit our Aerial Photography page to verify holdings information.
Due to workflow concerns the maximum number of aerial photographs copied per user request is 25; the Map Library will accept up to 2 requests for aerial photographs per week OR 3 requests per month per user.
