Community Services

The Community Services Coordinator plans, facilitates, and promotes volunteer activities and opportunities for the UGA Libraries' staff. Volunteer opportunities are identified and organized for the Libraries' staff in order to build a sense of community through serving the local area. Please contact the Community Services Coordinator, Hannah Richmond, at hannahlr@uga.edu for more information on volunteer opportunities.

Animal Welfare Drive & Display

Each year a display is erected at both the Main and Science Libraries. This display features pictures of Libraries staff members' pets as well as facts relating to the homeless pet plight both locally and nationally. In conjunction with the display, the Community Services Coordinator organizes the collection of goods to benefit local animal welfare charities. In past years, goods were collected for Athens Area Humane Society, Athens-Clarke County Animal Control, and Paws of Athens.

Canned Food Drive

At Thanksgiving, the Community Services Coordinator organizes a drive to collect goods to benefit the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia. Goods collected include both canned goods and toiletries to help folks who may not be able to afford the bare necessities.

Athens Tutorial Drive

In the Fall, goods are collected to benefit the Athens Tutorial Program.

Salvation Army Angel Fundraiser

During the winter holidays, money is collected to buy presents for Salvation Army Angels. Volunteers are also solicited from the staff to shop and wrap presents for these angels. In 2006, we collected over $800.00 to benefit 20 children in Athens-Clarke County.
