Endnote Site License Renewed at UGA
Endnote will continue to be available free to the UGA community in the 2005-2006 years thanks to Student Technology Fee special project funding -- hurray!
Endnote 9 for Windows was released in July (EN9 for Macintosh is scheduled for September). Endnote 9 is a solid upgrade and I recommend it.
NOTE: Before you install Endnote 9, please save your libraries from Endnote 7 or Endnote 8.02 on another drive and uninstall the earlier version. Endnote 9 will install cleanly and all the newest versions of filters, styles and connections will be available to you. Then move your Endnote libraries into Endnote 9, select any custom files for GALILEO you need from the database instructions webpage
RefWorks site licensed as another UGA writing tool
A popular web-based bibliography tool, RefWorks, will join Endnote as solutions to scholarly writing funded by Student Tech Fee.. The UGA community can pick the solution which best suits their needs...or choose both!

Locate full text journal articles and GIL book circulation status with Endnote's OpenURL feature
In Endnote 9 or Endnote 7 configure your preferences to interface with UGA's fulltext Findit@UGA (also known as SFX@UGA) via Endnote's OpenURL Link:
- Edit/Preferences/Open URL.
- Check the box Enable OpenURL.
- In the OpenURL Path box put http://www.galileo.usg.edu/sfx_uga
- In the Arguments box change the text at the beginning of the string from
?sid=ISI:WoS to ?sid=ISI:endnote
Do not change any of the rest of the text in the Arguments box.
- Click OK to save your changes.
- Open an Endnote record for a journal article.
- In the Endnote top bar, click References/OpenURL link and wait while the matching "Argument" is processed. You'll get a response with matches or no match online and a link to the GIL record for print copies of the journal.
- In the same vein, for an Endnote book record from GIL, click References/OpenURL link. We already know the first line of the search will report no match to online fulltext since the citation is not a journal article, but the last option will link to the GIL record for your book...with its availability noted.. Occasionally this function will not work as expected (ie. if a book is in a series, multiple matches for all the series volumes may occur, or if an audiovisual you may not get a match) but it is worth trying for Endnote book records.
Macintosh Endnoters - how to get more bang from Direct Export in GALILEO databases
View step by step instructions to create file helpers for 4 Macintosh browsers (Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer and Netscape) to enable Direct Export from Web of Science and all the EBSCO databases.
Mac Tiger (OS 10.4) and Endnote 7 and Endnote 8
The following incompatibilities are excerpted from the report on the Endnote website
EndNote 8 - We have identified minor incompatibilities with EndNote 8:
- The Hide/Show preview button may be invisible. As work-around you can use the Hide Preview/Show Preview option under the tools menu.
- When dragging and dropping references between EN8 and Word 2004 the citation is not inserted immediately.
- Fields which contain multiple lines of text may appear cut off at the top of the field. The program is displaying the last line of text in the field instead of the first. The data is unaffected and can be viewed by selecting the field and scrolling up.
EndNote 7 - We have identified minor incompatibilities with EndNote 7 :
- Arrow keys may not work in the Library and Record views (preview does not change unless the record is clicked).
- You may not be able to type in Search dialog.
