GALILEO Quick Search Alert
A new federated search option Quick Search (beta) is available on the
GALILEO homepage. It offers an exciting, streamlined approach for
mining some scholarly resources and I invite you to test it, but *please*
delay using the Save/Export to Endnote or RefWorks options for your search
results.
There are two serious lacks in the Quick Search Save/Export function:
1. All references export as Generic reference type -- and Generic cannot
style correctly in *any* style, not even the most popular ones like APA,
MLA, etc.
2. No keywords or abstracts will export...only the basic bibliographic
data. We need the keywords/abstract as access points to retrieve
appropriate references from our Endnote libraries in the future.
The development team at the software providers of the Quick Search option is
hard at work on a fix for these problems. Princeton University is testing
their solutions, so I hope a complete export will be available soon.
The software providers are committed to fast-tracking the implementation,
vendor by vendor, when the enhanced functionality is confirmed.
Until the Quick Search improves with Endnote (and I'll let you know when
that occurs) please continue to use the native interface with each database
available from the input box or pulldown menus on the GALILEO homepage.
This will insure you receive all the data and features to exploit the value
of both Endnote and GALILEO.
Also, the first phase of Quick Search is utilizing databases which have the
capacity for the federated search model and are available at institutions
throughout the state. In phase two (the coming fiscal year), more
UGA-specific licensed databases will be folded in so don't panic if your
favorite resource isn't listed. . .hopefully it'll show up in phase two
implementation.
