Art + Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-thon

woman shouting edit!

Wikimedia’s gender trouble is well-documented. In a 2011 survey, the Wikimedia Foundation found that less than 10% of its contributors identify as female. While the reasons for the gender gap are up for debate, the practical effect of this disparity is not: content is skewed by the lack of female participation. This represents an alarming absence in an important repository of shared knowledge.

Let’s change that: Join in on Saturday March 25, 2017 at the Lamar Dodd School of Art Room N201on from 1:00 to 5:00pm for an afternoon of communal updating of Wikipedia entries on subjects related to art and feminism. There will be a free tour of the Georgia Museum of Art at 12:30 focusing on women artists in their permanent collection.

Art Library staff will provide tutorials for the beginner Wikipedian, reference materials, a children’s art activity, and refreshments. Bring your laptop (if you have one – we have computers if you don’t), and ideas for entries that need updating or creation. For the editing-averse, we urge you to stop by to show your support. People of all gender identities and expressions are invited to participate. No experience required!

Please create a Wikipedia account before the event if you plan to participate. Find directions here.
