New Employee Orientation

Orientation provides new employees with an overview of the University of Georgia’s and the UGA Libraries' culture that assures an understanding of policies and procedures necessary to function efficiently in the environment. Orientation is addressed at various levels: University, Libraries and Department.

After the Libraries’ receives approval from the University to hire an applicant, an email invitation is sent to the new employee from the University’s online orientation system, Onboarding.  This system will allow the new employee to complete employment documentation online, except for the three payroll documents – direct deposit form, W4 Federal Withholding certificate, and G4 State Withholding certificate.  These three documents should be completed, printed out, and brought in on the new employee’s first day of work.

All newly hired faculty and staff must report to the Libraries' Human Resources Department at 8:00 a.m. on their first day of employment for completion of the employment process and to receive a brief Libraries' orientation, which is designed to:

  • Supplement the job-related orientation provided by the unit/department;
  • Provide an overview of the Libraries’ organization and its culture;
  • Introduce you to key personnel/groups and the roles that they play in the organization; and
  • Assure an understanding of policies and procedures necessary to function efficiently.

At that time new hires will also complete the Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification process and review the information in the New Employee checklist. The checklist includes a link to the Libraries New Employee Orientation, which contains useful information about the Libraries’ mission, organization, training and development, policies and procedures, technology, and security.  Additionally, the New Employee Orientation contains who to contact within the Libraries or at UGA if you have a problem.

New employees who need specific information about their individual benefits profile, are encouraged to attend a Q&A session held the first and third Monday of each month from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. by the University's Employee Benefits Department.   These sessions are held in the UGA Training & Development Center located at 315 South Thomas Street.
