Services offered:

Hargrett Library Imaging Services can produce photographs, photocopies, negatives, digital images and scans from the Library's collections for a fee. Photocopies are the most economical type of service for research purposes and are primarily used for written documents, while photographic reproductions and digital scans are more expensive and are often used primarily for rare maps and photographs.

The Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library will consider requests for limited reproduction of material when such copying can be done without injury to the material, does not violate donor agreements, and conforms to copyright statute.

*Permission to publish must be obtained separately. Permission to reproduce is NOT permission to publish.

Copy Services on-site:

If you visit the Georgiana Collection, within the Hargrett Library, you can make your own copies of materials within this collection at our self-service copier located in the room.

All photocopies must be paid for in advance using either cash or the UGA copier card. The price of a card is $1.00 and can be purchased from automatic machines on the first floor of the Main Library. Value can be added at any copy machine which accepts money. The price for a photocopy using the UGA copy card is $.07 and $.10 if using cash.

Reproducing items from our collection:

The Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library will consider requests for limited reproduction of material when such copying meets ALL of the following criteria:
1. Can be done without injury to the material
2. Does not violate donor agreements
3. Conforms to copyright statute

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material.

Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a copy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user will be liable for copyright infringement.

This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order, if in its judgement, fulfillment of the order would involve a violation of copyright law.

PERMISSION TO REPRODUCE IS NOT PERMISSION TO PUBLISH. TO APPLY FOR PERMISSION, CLICK HERE TO GO TO OUR PERMISSION TO PUBLISH FORMS.
