University of Georgia Theses & Dissertations
If a print* University of Georgia thesis, dissertation, or graduate project is “checked out” or “lost,” you can fill out a request to see the University's archival “master” copy in the Georgia Room.
*Digital “electronic” files of theses and dissertations began to replace print copies in 1999, and print copies were entirely discontinued in Summer 2001. For electronic theses and dissertations (PDF files), please check UGA’s “Electronic Theses and Dissertations” database in GALILEO. If the status is "publicly available," you can access the material by clicking on the link; if not, you can submit an interlibrary loan request.
If the lending copy is not available, how do you request an "archival" thesis or dissertation?
To see an archival copy of a UGA thesis/dissertation, researchers must submit their requests directly to the Hargrett Library, either in person during regular hours or via email. Since Hargrett Library copies of theses and dissertations must be retrieved from offsite storage, this service is available only on weekdays, Monday through Friday. Researchers should allow at least one full business day for delivery from the time that their request is received. All archived copies must be used in the Georgia Room and returned to the Hargrett Library desk before 4:50 pm that same day. Under no circumstances are archival copies allowed to check out. Self-service photocopying facilities are available. Long-distance photocopy requests regarding theses/dissertations should be directed to UGA Library Interlibrary Loan.
