Collection Policies
What we collect
The Georgiana Collection is a is a research collection emphasizing :
- Published books and periodicals about the actions or influences of Georgia's people, institutions and organizations.
- Published works about the state or its subdivisions as a geographical, historical or political setting.
- Works written by "Georgians" -- individual authors or organizations that are identified with Georgia, due to nativity or career association.
What we do not collect
Subjects typically not collected by the Georgiana Collection include:
- Family histories and genealogies
- Travel guides
- Textbooks
- Bibles
- Songbooks and hymnals
- School yearbooks
- Subjects designed especially for juvenile reading levels
- Newspapers [Georgia Newspaper Project];
- Maps and atlases [Map Collection];
- Sheet music and musical recordings [Music Collection];
- State and federal documents [Government Documents];
- Curriculum materials [Curriculum Center];
- Film and video [Media Collection];
- Manuscript materials [Manuscripts Collection and Russell Library];
- University of Georgia records [University Archives].
In addition, we may reject books that lack indexes, footnotes or bibliographies of sources as they are typically inadequate for university researchers' needs.
