United States Government Documents

About the collection

United States Government Documents are issued by the U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO) or by individual departments and agencies within the U.S. Government in paper, microfiche and/or electronic format. As the Regional Depository for U.S. documents in the State of Georgia, the University of Georgia Libraries receives and permanently retains all publications made available to depository libraries under the GPO's Federal Depository Library Program. Most documents of the executive, judicial, and legislative branches are included in this program. The Libraries also maintains a collection of non-depository publications beginning with those issued in 1953.

Access

Many U.S. Government Documents can be located through GIL, the Libraries' online catalog; however, please be advised that records for most items published prior to 1976 do not yet have records in GIL. If you have a question about whether the Libraries own a specific document please contact the Map and Government Information Library for assistance.

Additional access to documents published from 1976 to present is provided by the Monthly Catalog of U.S. Government Publications (GALILEO Password required for off-campus access).
