United States Government Documents

About the collection

U. S. Government Documents are issued by the U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO) or by individual departments and agencies within the U.S. Government. As the Regional Depository for U.S. documents in the state of Georgia, the University of Georgia Libraries receives in paper, microfiche or electronic format all publications made available to depository libraries under GPO's Federal Depository Library Program. Most documents of the executive, judicial, and legislative branches are included in this program. The Libraries also maintain a collection of non-depository publications beginning with those issued in 1953.

Access

U. S. Government Documents (1976 to present) can be located through GIL, the Libraries' online catalog. Please be advised that bibliographic records for electronic publications and non-depository publications have not yet been added to the catalog but will be added at a later date. In addition, specific holdings information about the U.S. Government Documents in our collection is being added over time to the catalog and may not be available on the day you search GIL. Please ask a reference librarian for assistance if you have a question about whether the Libraries own a specific document.

Additional access is provided by the Monthly Catalog of U.S. Government Publications (published from 1976 to date). The Monthly Catalog is available through GALILEO. UGA faculty, staff, & students may obtain a password for off-campus access to GALILEO.
