United Nations Documents
About the collection
The United Nations documents collection at the University of Georgia Libraries includes documents published after 1973 and is housed on the 2nd floor of the Main Library. The United Nations documents collection also includes documents published before that date if they are part of a continuing series, such as the United Nations Statistical Yearbook.
The United Nations documents are shelved using the UN Series Symbol. The prefix UN is added to this symbol to complete the call number used in this collection.
The United Nations documents collection contains the publications of the five principal organs of the UN:
- General Assembly
- Economic and Social Council
- Security Council
- Secretariat
- Trusteeship Council
Access
Access to United Nations documents is through special indexes:
- Traditional indexes in paper and microfiche format covering various periods from 1946 to date are located in part in the Main Reference department on the first floor, and in part on the 2nd floor in a special United Nations reference collection.
- Online access to documents published from 1946 to date is provided by the the Libaries' subscription to Access UN available to University of Georgia campus users.
- Access to documents published from 1990 to date is also provided by a CD-ROM index which has been installed on one of the public access workstations located in the Main Reference department.
Associated Documents
The Index to International Statistics, available for on-campus use in LexisNexis Statistical, provides access to statistical information available from international intergovernmental organizations, including the United Nations. The documents and publications in this collection are for the most part not listed in GIL.
The publications of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the World Bank, and other quasi-UN organizations are in the Libraries' general collection and may be located through GIL.
