Location:The government
documents collections are located mainly on the Second Floor of the Main
Library and on the Main Floor of the Science Library. However,
Please note!! Many of these documents have been
moved to an off-site repository. Documents housed at the repository
can be retrieved on request.
-
Reference sources for government documents as well as selected
CD-ROMs and selected Census Bureau publications are now housed on
the first floor of the Main Library in the Main Reference area.
Each collection of documents is arranged and shelved primarily by
a classification system that is unique to that collection and not
by the Library of Congress Classification System, which is used
in the rest of the University of Georgia Libraries.
Access & Reference: Please note!! Reference
service for government documents has been merged with the Main
Reference Department on the first floor of the Main Library.
U. S. Government Publications
(1976 to present) can be located through the Libraries' online catalog,
GIL (GALILEO Interconnected Libraries).
Please be advised that bibliographic records for electronic publications
and non-depository publications have not yet been added to the catalog
but will be added at a later date. In addition, specific holdings information
about the U.S. Government Publications in our collection is being added
over time to the catalog and may not be available on the day you search
GIL. Please ask a reference librarian for assistance if you have a question
about whether the Libraries own a specific U.S. Government publication.
Additional access to U.S.
Government Publications is provided by GPO Monthly Catalog (1976 to present)
on GALILEO@UGA (password required), and on Impact (a stand-alone workstation
on the second floor of the Main Library).
Most specialized print and
CD-ROM indexes and catalogs for the government documents collections are
located on the first floor of the Library in the Main Reference Department.
In addition, several online indexes and other resources for government
information research, including United Nations, Canadian, and U.S. government
information are available to on-campus users at Electronic
Resource Subscriptions for Government Information.
The government documents collections
may be utilized anytime during Library
hours. Certain documents and resources, however, are only available
during Main Reference
desk hours or, in some cases, by special appointment with a government
documents specialist arranged through the Main Reference Department (706
542-3251).
Circulation:
Most of the documents in these
collections circulate for four weeks. Some documents circulate with special
permission, which can be granted only by a government documents specialist.
There are some documents (e.g., reference materials, publications of the
U.S. Bureau of the Census, documents in microformat and certain documents
in electronic format), which do not circulate. If there are any questions
concerning the circulation of materials, please contact the Main Reference
Desk.
