Introduction to Publishing Academic Monographs and Books

Dr. Ana Jimenez-Moreno will give you an insider’s view into the process of publishing books and monographs to help graduate students about to enter the job market and early career faculty better position themselves for publication. The talk will focus on:

  • getting the proposal / manuscript ready for review
  • identifying the best Press for your work
  • understanding the time frame of publishing
    • peer review process
    • copyediting, production, and design
  • contract
  • thinking about the costs of publishing
  • collaborating with your press

Considerations, such as issues of class, race, and gender, and project and time management strategies will also be discussed.



Your Presenter: Ana M. Jimenez-Moreno is this year's Andrew W. Mellon University Press Diversity Fellow at the University of Georgia Press. She did a post-doctorate internship in publishing at Notre Dame Press, as well as completed a Ph.D. in English literature at the University of Notre Dame. Ana also holds a B.A. degree from Rutgers University.



There will be time for questions after the presentation. Light refreshments will be served.
