Message from the University Librarian
Diversity and inclusion are integral to the stated mission and goals of the University of Georgia as it strives to give its students the skills necessary to navigate today’s globalized society. To meet this challenge, the University of Georgia Libraries recognize the importance of developing a learning and work environment in all its facilities that embraces diversity and inclusion of personal, cultural, intellectual and physical differences of students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
In 2012, a task force was formed to develop the UGA Libraries’ first diversity plan. We wanted a plan that would help us create and maintain a supportive environment for each individual member of the University community, integrate and implement the University’s diversity initiatives, provide equal access to information resources, and keep diversity initiatives at the forefront of the UGA Libraries' strategic operations. In February 2013, the UGA Libraries’ Department Heads Group approved the UGA Libraries Diversity Plan 2013.
The UGA Libraries will promote the goals of its diversity plan through a variety of programs, resources, services, exhibits, speakers, policies, survey methods, and the recruitment and retention of a committed faculty and staff. Please join us in these worthy endeavors.
