A monumental work containing biographical and bibliographical information on innumerable authors in German literature beginning with the Middle Ages. Included are exhaustive lists of each author's known writings. The 2nd edition spans the period from the Middle Ages to 1830. A 3rd edition has replaced the second for the Goethezeit. The fourth volume of the 3rd edition contains the Goethe-Bibliographie, including a supplement of literature on Goethe to 1960.
