Although P-16 information literacy is a hot topic of discussion, action is still at the fledgling stage. The programs and organizations below offer potential sources for collaboration, information and funding.
Northeast Georgia P-16 Initiative
CLOC's interest in collaborative teaching across the grade levels is mirrored in this community partnership for improving education in the greater Athens area. It's members include P-16 teachers and administrators, child advocacy organizations, parents and local businesses.
"Blueprint for Collaborating: AASL / ACRL Task Force on the Educational Role of Libraries".
This document published in 2000 recommends ways that the various bodies within ACRL and AASL can promote collaboration between K-16 librarians. Of special interest are the appendixes listing examples of collaborative projects and grant opportunities.
Institute for Library & Information Literacy Education
A state-wide effort in Ohio to bring information literacy into the classroom. Not a grassroots organization like CLOC, but addresses similar goals. One of their projects is called " 12 to 13: High School to College Transition"
Institute of Museum and Library Services
An independent federal grant-giving agency, the IMLS "encourages partnerships to expand the educational benefit of libraries and museums" and has generously funded many information literacy projects.
