Rare Books on loan to GMOA’s Catherine the Great exhibition

October 3, 2013 – 11:37 AM

Some two dozen volumes of 18th century books are on loan to the Georgia Museum of Art as part of the exhibition “Exuberance of Meaning: The Art Patronage of Catherine the Great,” on view through Jan. 5.

Primarily books about art, with an emphasis on the art of ancient Greece and Rome, they reflect ideas that would have influenced Catherine, a patron of the visual and literary arts. They are on loan from the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library.
