“Big Year” Storytelling Event, 10/24

October 21, 2013 – 1:08 PM

Inspired by the storytelling format of the popular radio show This American Life and co-sponsored by local storytelling collective Rabbit Box, the Russell Library will host an event showcasing selected scholars and community members on Thursday, October 24 from 7-9 PM in room 285 of the Richard B. Russell Building Special Collections Libraries.

Under the theme, “It Was a Big Year”, chosen community members will tell true, personal stories about their lives in the so-called “big year.” Complementing these personal stories will be a series of three UGA faculty presenters who will reflect on the “big year” in terms of their field of study: music, fashion, and film. The faculty presenters will include David Barbe (Music Business Program), José Blanco F. (Historic Clothing and Textiles Collection), and Richard Neupert (Department of Theater and Film Studies). Scholars and storytellers will be interwoven throughout the program, shifting the focus from national and international events to significant moments in the lives of individuals.

This event is one in a series of three titled “It Was a Big Year” to be hosted by the Russell Library this October, all inspired by the ongoing exhibit Now and Then: 1973 currently on display in the Library Gallery.
