E-Book Update: Public Library Now Lends E-Books!

February 1, 2011 – 6:15 AM

Just two weeks after we posted about e-book options through local libraries, the Athens Public Library has added e-book lending as one of their services to the public.  The Athens Banner Herald covered the story, and the library’s own web page now reads:

By popular demand, e-books are now available for online checkout from the Athens Regional Library System’s website. A limited number of ebook titles has been added to the Georgia Download Destination collection this year. Two formats are available: epub and pdf. To view a list of compatible devices, visit the Overdrive Device Resource Center.

In order to check out ebooks from GDD, you will need to download and install the Adobe Digital Editions software. This is a free program which allows you to read ebooks on your computer or to transfer them to your reader device. There is a FAQ page to help you get started. Start browsing the collection at Georgia Download Destination.

So drop on by, and see what they’ve got that you can read on your iPhone, Nook, or multiple other mobile devices and e-book readers.  (They have downloadable audiobooks, too!)
