Bulldog Bookclub – September Meetings

August 31, 2009 – 3:02 PM

The Bulldog Book Club, created by Fran Teague of the UGA English department, hosts informal meetings each semester to discuss a wide range of readings. All are welcome!

Orson Scott Card, Ender’s Game
“This futuristic tale involves aliens, political discourse on the Internet, sophisticated computer games, and an orbiting battle station. Yet the reason it rings true for so many is that it is first and foremost a tale of humanity; a tale of a boy struggling to grow up into someone he can respect while living in an environment stripped of choices.”

Junot Diaz, The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao
Oscar is a 300-pound-plus “lovesick ghetto nerd” with zero game (except for Dungeons & Dragons) who cranks out pages of fantasy fiction with the hopes of becoming a Dominican J.R.R. Tolkien. This novel won the 2008 Pulitzer for best novel.
