Latest on Main Library Renovations

We continue to make progress in the Main Library renovations. A protective floor covering for the lobby area was installed today. We also began construction of a dust wall through the former Reading Room area.

We are currently moving the Current Periodicals and the Leisure Reading Collection to the second floor. More information to come when these moves are complete.

Food Services in the Main Library

The ‘Tween the Pages cafe in the Main Library student lounge is closed during the renovations. Food Services has set up a food cart in the Main Library lobby with drinks and snacks to be open Mondays-Fridays, 8:00-3:00.

Circulation/Reserves temporary relocation

Due to the ongoing renovations in the Main Library, the Access Services department (including the Circulation desk and Reserves) has relocated temporarily to the 7th floor.

Court Ruling in the Georgia State Electronic Course Reserves Copyright case favorable to GSU!

Judge Orinda Evans, U.S. District Court in Atlanta found mostly in favor of Georgia State University in the copyright infringement lawsuit brought against it by two non-profit and one for-profit publishers back in 2008: Cambridge University Press, Oxford University Press, and Sage Publications. Judge Evans found only 5 out of 99 alleged copyright infringements as violations of the publishers copyrights. While mostly favorable to academic fair use, the decision provides some stricter guidelines for academic copying in her proposed 10% rule for copying and putting books on electronic reserves or course sites. GIL Express service suspended May 13-19

Due to a planned software upgrade to the University System of Georgia’s library servers, the ability to place GIL Express requests will be temporarily suspended next week. The service will be unavailable from midnight on May 13, 2012 until 7:00 a.m. on May 19, 2012.

Main Library Current Periodicals on the Move

We have begun moving the Main Library’s current periodicals from the 1st floor to their temporary location on the 2nd floor. Once renovation is complete, they will return to a new location on the 1st floor.

Update on Government Documents Locations

As we renovate the Main Library and work to establish the new Map and Government Information Library in the Main Library basement, government document collections will be moved to new locations.

Here’s the latest information:

The print version of the U.S. Congressional Serial Set through 100th Congress (1987/89) is currently unavailable. The online version of the Serial Set (1817-1994) is available via GALILEO@UGA (the Articles and Databases tab) on the Libraries homepage.

Also, the entire United Nations documents collection has been temporarily relocated from the international documents section on the 2nd floor to the new Government Documents closed stacks; it will be moved to the new Map and Government Information Library stacks in the subbasement of Main in June. In the interim, users can request UN documents at the Main Library Reference desk.
