The Main and Science Libraries will close on Saturday, October 3, for the home football game – Alabama @ Georgia. The libraries will resume regular semester hours on Sunday, October 4.
Do you need a book from the Main Library but can’t make it to North Campus? Not sure where the Curriculum Materials Library is located but really want to read Divergent? We can help with that.
On September 2, the UGA Libraries launched a book retrieval service for UGA students, faculty, and staff. Requests may be made online through the UGA Libraries’ catalog (GIL) for available items in the Main, Science, and Curriculum Materials Libraries. We will deliver the books you request to any of several library locations. You will be notified by e-mail when books are ready to be picked up.
Contact the UGA Libraries’ Access Services department for more information at 706-542-3256 or email@example.com.
Are you a new or returning graduate student?
The UGA Libraries are holding open houses especially for graduate students on Wednesday, August 12 between 2:00-4:00 p.m.
Meet your librarians, learn about key online resources, and tour the buildings. Representatives from various Libraries’ departments will be available to answer questions and demonstrate research tools including the GIL Find catalog, GALILEO system of databases, and citation management tools EndNote and RefWorks.
Main Library database introductions and tours will begin at 2:15, 2:45, and 3:15.
Science Library database introductions and tours (including the MakerSpace) will begin at 2:15 and 3:15.
…but you can stop by anytime between 2:00-4:00.
Also: door prizes and light refreshments!
Main Library: social sciences, humanities, arts, business; North Campus at the end of the quad
Science Library: sciences, technology, agriculture; South Campus inside Boyd Graduate Studies

After graduation, you can borrow books from the UGA Libraries through the following programs:
Due to licensing agreements and vendor restrictions, alumni and outside borrowers do not have remote access to GALILEO databases through the University of Georgia.
The Main and Science Libraries will be closed on Friday, July 3, and Saturday, July 4, in observance of the Independence Day holiday.
In partnership with the Office of Sustainability, we’ve started circulating Bulldog Bikes from the Main and Science Libraries. The Libraries have bikes at each location which can be checked out from the circulation desks. Helmets are also available.
This service is available to current students, staff, faculty. Bikes are checked out for the day with no restrictions to staying on campus. The eventual goal is to be able to return the bikes to either Main or Science but currently they must be returned to the location from which they were borrowed.
The Office of Sustainability is excited to partner with the Libraries and hopes that this will expand their program. Inquiries can be directed to the circulation desks, firstname.lastname@example.org or 706-542-3256.
The bikes & racks are located at Main between the library and Dean Rusk Hall and at Science by the steps leading to and from the parking lot.
The LSA Spring Book and Bake Sale is Thursday, April 2!
It will be from 10:00 am-3:00 pm in the Lobby of the Main Library, (although we never guarantee that the baked goods will last that long – so yummy). There will be a bake sale in the Science Library from 10:00 am – 2:oo pm.
Please join us and enjoy tasty sweets made by library staff, and take home a book or several (or a CD, or a DVD…) for a bargain price!
The MAGIL (Map and Government Information Library) and the microform (microfilm and microfiche) areas of the Main Library will remain closed for approximately two weeks due to water damage.
In MAGIL, staff will be able to retrieve some materials from collections (http://www.libs.uga.edu/magil/about/interim-access.html). Due to the movement of the microform cabinets for the purposes of restoring the impacted basement area, we will not be able to retrieve material from that space.
Limited reference assistance is also available by:
Phone: 8:30am-5:30pm Monday through Friday: 706-542-0690
Parker Young Construction and FireStar have been on site regarding efforts to dry, clean, and repair the portions of MAGIL and the basement microform area impacted. They are currently estimating that work will be complete in both areas in the next two weeks. This timeline is subject to change.
The Curriculum Materials Library will be closing for renovations. The week of April 13th, we’ll be partially closed. We will have some access but will begin packing our collection. Beginning April 20th we will be completely closed. The CML should reopen in early June. For more information, please visit our LibGuide.
A plumbing failure early Friday morning led to the flooding of parts of the basement and sub-basement of the Main Library. The water reached parts of the microform (microfilm, microfiche, etc.) area of the basement. As a result, clean-up crews will be working over the weekend and the microform area will be closed. We will reevaluate conditions in the microform area Monday morning.
In addition, the Map and Government Information Library (MAGIL) will remain closed until further notice.
