Athens-Clarke County Cooperative Extension Service
An educational arm of UGA and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Extension Service provides information relating to agriculture, horticulture, agribusiness, landscaping, the environment, and 4-H/youth.

Athens Locally Grown
A small group of growers located around Athens who share a dedication to community, environment, health, and the benefits of sustainable agriculture practices. Strict standards ensure that everything produced is chemical-free.

Full Moon Cooperative
A community supported farm and learning center committed to environmentally sound production of fresh organic foods. By honoring the fundamental connections between food, land & people, Full Moon hopes to nurture a more sustainable future.

Roots Farm
Roots Farm is an organic community farm located just outside Athens that cares for the land through sustainable farming practices.

P.L.A.C.E.
P.L.A.C.E. (Promoting Local Agriculture and Cultural Experience) provides educational programs in order to convey the social, economic, environmental, and nutritional benefits of supporting sustainable local food systems.


Animal Welfare

ACC Animal Control
Enforces Athens-Clarke County animal control ordinances, investigates allegations of animal cruelty, provides information regarding lost or found dogs, and offers adoption or reclaim of impounded and surrendered dogs.

AthensPets
A volunteer organization that provides photos and descriptions of dogs available at Athens-Clarke County Animal Control.

Athens Canine Rescue
A nonprofit volunteer network of foster homes rescuing dogs in the Athens area and placing them in permanent homes. Website features a gallery of adoptable dogs.

Athens Area Humane Society
Strives to provide safe shelter, to locate loving homes for homeless and abandoned animals, and to end animal neglect, cruelty, and suffering. Provides an online gallery of adoptable animals featuring cats, rabbits, hamsters, and more.

Cat Zip Alliance
A non-profit organization of volunteers working to reduce the number of homeless cats and put an end to unnecessary euthanasia and feline overpopulation by actively promoting and practicing the principles of responsible feral cat management.

Pet Assistance & Welfare Society of Athens
PAWS helps elderly, low-income, and physically or mentally challenged pet owners spay and neuter their pets to reduce euthanasia and shelter overcrowding.

Pawtropolis - Helping Paws Rescue
The Helping Paws no-kill shelter at Pawtropolis (a pet boarding & daycare center) provides a home for abandoned dogs & cats until they are adopted by new families.

Speak Out for Species
S.O.S works to protect animals from cruelty and exploitation, to reduce animal suffering, and to promote compassion and respect for all living beings.


Art

Athens Area Arts Council
The purpose of the Athens Area Arts Council is to serve as a clearinghouse for information about the arts; to make the arts accessible to all elements of the community; to provide educational and professional support services to working artists; and to encourage awareness of and support for the arts through increased communication, collaboration, education, and coordination.

Athens Art Association
The Athens Art Association, founded in 1919, is a non-profit professional organization established for the advancement of visual arts in Athens.

Athens Photography Guild
An organization of community members sharing a dedicated interest in photography.

The Studio Group
A collection of Athens artists who collaborate to promote & exhibit their artwork.

Cotton Patch Quilt Guild
The Guild sponsors quilt shows, workshops, community service projects, and more.

Athens Area Chamber of Commerce
Works to foster economic development and promote local business. Website offers member information, a business directory, economic development information, and resources for visitors and residents of Athens.

ACC Economic Development Foundation
A public-private agency created to work with chamber of commerce, government, and UGA officials in promoting existing industries and attracting new businesses.

ACC Department of Human & Economic Development
Addresses the challenges facing low-income citizens and neighborhoods, including poor housing conditions, unemployment, crime & juvenile delinquency. Encourages job creation, new business start-up, and expansion of established businesses.

Athens Downtown Development Authority
Acts a as liaison between government and the downtown business community to promote and enhance a safe and economically viable central business district.

Better Business Bureau
Serving Athens and Northeast Georgia by fostering fair and honest relationships between businesses and consumers, instilling consumer confidence, and contributing to an ethical business environment.

East Athens Development Corporation
A nonprofit community based development organization working to facilitate the economic empowerment of East Athens residents, and development and revitalization of the East Athens Community.

Economic Justice Coalition
Promotes a vision for economic fairness by advocating for fair wages and health benefits, the development of quality jobs for low wage workers, corporate responsibility and accountability, and the rights of workers to organize.

Navy Supply Corps School Local Redevelopment Authority
A group of citizens that will lead efforts for the community in responding to the Base Realignment and Closure process. The mission of the LRA is to prepare a comprehensive plan for the redevelopment of the NSCS property.

Partners for A Prosperous Athens
A community initiative to combat the causes of persistent poverty in Clarke County.

Small Business Development Center - Athens Office
Business consulting, business training workshops, and marketing and research services are available to assist individuals with the start-up of new businesses or the expansion of existing businesses.


Children

All God’s Children
An Athens-area special needs adoption agency working in partnership with the Georgia Department of Human Resources to find adoptive families for children.

Athens Area Child Abuse Prevention Council
A non-profit, community-based organization dedicated to preventing child abuse in all of its forms -- physical, sexual, emotional, and neglect -- through education, intervention, and support.

Athens Tutorial Program
A non-profit organization dedicated to providing academic assistance, improving learning skills, and providing personal growth and cultural enrichment opportunities to K-12 students.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Athens
With four locations in the community, Boys & Girls Clubs give the youth of Athens a clean, healthy, and safe place to play, work, and learn.

Clarke County Mentor Program
A non-profit organization that pairs trained community volunteers, as mentors, with public school students who can benefit from a close association with a caring friend who will help them strive for excellence in their lives.

Communities In Schools
Helping children stay in school and prepare for life, this dropout prevention initiative fosters school readiness, school success, and healthy children.

Court Appointed Special Advocates
Athens-Oconee CASA trains and supervises community volunteers to advocate for children who are victims of family abuse or neglect. Volunteers represent the interests of children in court proceedings and strive to ensure the child has a safe, permanent home.

Families4Change
A nonprofit organization that seeks to reduce recidivism rates, problem behaviors, and truancy among first-time juvenile offenders and at-risk school-age youth.

Friends for Life
A mentoring program dedicated to promoting a better life for children, ages 4-18 years, with a primary focus on those of incarcerated parents.

HERO for Children
A non-profit organization that raises money, awareness, and compassion to improve the quality of life for children affected by HIV/AIDS.

McPhaul Children's Center
Provides developmentally appropriate programs on a full-day basis for both UGA and community families with children ages 8 weeks to 5 years, and half-day Head Start programs for children ages 3-5 years.

Project START

Athens Rotary Club
A service-based club that works on various projects relating to health, hunger, environmental concerns, literacy and vocational assistance, drug abuse, and assisting senior citizens and young people.

Junior League of Athens
An organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.

L.E.A.D. Athens

Ballroom Dance Club
Provides opportunities for social ballroom dance and instruction on the UGA campus and in the Athens community. Offers a variety of free programs to the community.

Canopy
An arts center dedicated to enriching the culture of our community through flying dance trapeze, movement education, and performance arts.

Contact Dance
A not-for-profit organization, Contact Dance seeks to entertain and enlighten audiences through quality dance exhibitions and community outreach. Offers beginning to advanced level classes in traditional ballroom and social dance.

Dancefx
Dancefx Inc., a not-for-profit dance organization, is dedicated to bringing professional quality dance and other cutting-edge dance forms to the Athens community while providing a continuing education and performance outlet for dancers and artists to express themselves creatively.

Pamoja Dance Company

Autism Angel Center
A private non-profit organization offering service programs, training, and outreach to improve the quality of life for individuals with autism in Northeast Georgia.

Goodwill of North Georgia

Provides confidential assistance to employees in the identification and resolution of personal or work related issues that may affect productivity and satisfaction in the work environment as well as the employee's personal well being.

Athens Grow Green Coalition
Promotes responsible community development policies that protect the environment, reduce sprawl, maintain a healthy economy, and preserve a high quality of life.

ACC Community Tree Council
Provides information, outreach, and education to promote responsible management of trees and forests of the Athens-Clarke County community.

ACC Recycling Division
Website provides information about services of the Recycling Division, which has been honored with an award from the National Recycling Coalition.

ACC Stormwater
Works to alleviate flooding, to reduce the discharge of harmful pollutants associated with stormwater runoff, and to protect the water quality of our streams & rivers.

Athens Area Master Gardener Association
Members volunteer by conducting gardening clinics, working on community beautification projects, assisting with activities at the State Botanical Garden, etc.

Athens Land Trust
Works with landowners to protect forestlands, river and stream corridors, wildlife habitats, working farmlands, and scenic vistas in and surrounding Athens-Clarke County through the use of conservation easements.

BikeAthens
Promotes transportation and land-use policies that improve alternative modes of transportation, including pedestrian, cycling, and public transit options. The mission of BikeAthens is to make alternative transportation a practical, convenient, and safe option for all citizens of Athens-Clarke County.

Broad River Watershed Association
A regional non-profit land trust dedicated to the protection and management of the Broad River and its watershed in northeast Georgia.

Clean Air Athens
Concerned citizens from Athens-Clarke and surrounding counties working to improve local air quality and reduce industrial air pollution.

Creative Earth
A non-profit organization devoted to environmental education and environmental stewardship through innovative programs and interactive workshops.

Garden Club of Georgia

Athens Pride
A coalition of LGBT and allied organizations in the Athens area which have come together to celebrate and communicate LGBT life in the Classic City.

GLOBES
Gay, Lesbian, or Bisexual Employees and Supporters at UGA. GLOBES exists to ensure the University is a safe and welcoming place for LGBT people.

Just Equal
An Athens-based volunteer organization dedicated to establishing equality for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people and their families, and to ending discrimination based upon sexual orientation and gender identity.

Lambda Alliance
Lambda Alliance's mission is to strengthen the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, queer, and ally (LGBTQA) community at the University of Georgia.

OUTreach Athens

Athens Neighborhood Health Center
Provides accessible, affordable, high quality primary health care to medically underserved and at-risk individuals in Athens-Clarke County and surrounding areas.

Athens Nurses Clinic
A non-profit, nurse-run organization providing free health care to the homeless, indigent and lower income in Athens-Clarke County.

Clarke County Health Department
Provides a comprehensive range of health services to the citizens of Athens-Clarke County in the areas of women’s health, children's health, communicable disease control, chronic disease services, dental health, nutrition services, health education, and more. A service of the Northeast Health District and Georgia Public Health.

Mercy Health Center
A volunteer-based non-profit Christian health center providing care for the uninsured in and around Athens with services including medical, pharmacy, and dental care.


Hispanic

Hispanic Concerns Committee of Athens
A community education and political advocacy group which focuses on the fair treatment of undocumented immigrants particularly in the Athens area but also in the State of Georgia and the United States.

Oasis Católico Santa Rafaela
A Catholic outreach and ministry dedicated to helping the Hispanic community of Athens by providing a range of services including transportation, food, clothing, health screenings, tutoring, interpretive services, worship opportunities, and more.


History

Athens Historical Society
A non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the history of Athens, Clarke County, and the surrounding area.

Athens-Clarke Heritage Foundation
As a leading advocate of historic preservation, ACHF is dedicated to conserving Athens' rich architectural and cultural heritage.

Clarke-Oconee Genealogical Society
Promotes the collection and preservation of information about Clarke and Oconee Counties, and helps members further individual research efforts and knowledge.


HIV/AIDS

AIDS Athens
A grassroots nonprofit organization committed to caring for individuals affected by HIV/AIDS. AIDS Athens serves 10 counties of Northeast Georgia.

Boybutante AIDS Foundation
Provides funding for programs that serve people living with HIV/AIDS, and for educational programs targeted at HIV/AIDS prevention and elimination of prejudice and discrimination against HIV/AIDS-affected individuals.

HERO for Children
A non-profit organization that raises money, awareness, and compassion to improve the quality of life for children affected by HIV/AIDS.


Homeless

Athens Area Homeless Shelter
Provides a transitional facility for homeless women and their children. Offers shelter, food, childcare, training, counseling, transportation, and resettlement help.

Interfaith Hospitality Network
A coalition of more than 15 area congregations that have partnered together to combat homelessness in Northeast Georgia.

Nancy Travis House
Provides temporary emergency child day care to families who are homeless, enabling parents residing in shelters to seek employment, secure housing, etc.


Housing

Athens Area Habitat for Humanity
An ecumenical Christian-based housing ministry dedicated to the elimination of substandard housing in Clarke, Oconee, and Oglethorpe counties.

Athens Housing Authority
Ensures the housing needs of low-and-moderate income families by providing secure, affordable, quality housing and resources which encourage & sustain independence for wage earners, elderly, and their families.

Athens Land Trust
A private, non-profit corporation that builds affordable, energy-efficient houses for low to moderate income families.

People of Hope
A non-profit organization working to develop Georgia’s first permanently affordable, resident designed, and resident controlled mobile home community. Founded by low-income families who have been displaced as mobile home parks have shut down.


Human Services

Family Connection Partnership
The official planning and coordinating body for services for children and families in Athens-Clarke County. Family Connection is a partnership of ninety organizations working together for all children and families to succeed in school and in life.

Community Connection of Northeast Georgia
An information and referral agency that provides a telephone hotline (211) to help people locate social service agencies which assist with basic needs including food, clothing, shelter, housing, health care, mental health, and disability services.

Hands On Northeast Georgia
A volunteer center that helps individuals, families and corporate and community groups to find flexible service opportunities at various organizations in Athens-Clarke and Oconee Counties. Hands On Northeast Georgia creates, organizes, and leads meaningful service projects that positively impact the community.

Volunteer UGA
A campus volunteer center designed to connect UGA students with the many opportunities for community service in the Athens-Clarke County community.

ACC Department of Human & Economic Development

A volunteer organization devoted to providing relief to victims of disasters and helping people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.

The Ark
The Ark United Ministry Outreach Center serves as an extension of the religious communities of the Athens-Clarke County area by responding to neighbors who need material and personal support. Provides financial assistance to individuals and families in crisis for basic needs such as rent, utilities and prescription medicine.

Athens Community Outreach Center
Offers services and activities to strengthen and empower low-income families, with a special emphasis on the Hispanic population. Services include information and referral services, English as a Second Language, job readiness training and referrals, social advocacy, and counseling. Operated by Catholic Social Services, Inc.

Clarke County Division of Family and Children Services
DFCS investigates child abuse, finds foster homes for abused and neglected children, helps low out-of-work parents get back on their feet, assists with childcare costs for low income parents, and provides support services to help troubled families.

Oasis Católico Santa Rafaela
A Catholic outreach and ministry dedicated to helping the Hispanic community of Athens by providing a range of services including transportation, food, clothing, health screenings, tutoring, interpretive services, worship opportunities, and more.

Salvation Army - Athens Corps
An evangelical Christian organization providing social services such as emergency shelter, drug/alcohol abuse rehabilitation, rent assistance, clothing and food assistance, and disaster relief services.

United Way Of Northeast Georgia
A non-profit organization which raises money to support 26 human services agencies which offer a broad mix of programs and services throughout the seven county Northeast Georgia area.

Center for Counseling and Personal Evaluation
Provides professional services for a wide range of emotional, interpersonal, and educational concerns for families and individuals throughout Northeast Georgia.

Family Counseling Services of Athens
A non-profit agency providing individual, marriage, and family counseling to Northeast Georgia residents. Agency staff include social workers, professional counselors, marriage and family therapists, and certified addiction counselors.

McPhaul Family Therapy Clinic
Serves individuals, couples, and families from the UGA community as well as the Athens-Clarke County area. Offers therapy for a variety of issues such as physical abuse, depression, communication, and sexuality.

Psychology Clinic
An independent community mental health facility operated by the UGA Department of Psychology, offering a wide range of psychological services to meet the needs of people in the Northeast Georgia area.

Samaritan Counseling Center

Athens Choral Society
A community chorus with membership open, without audition, to anyone who enjoys learning and performing major works of choral music.

Athens Master Chorale
A non-profit select volunteer concert choir active in the Athens music community.

Athens Folk Music & Dance Society
Promotes folk music by providing an opportunity for traditional folk musicians and artists to perform. Holds concerts and monthly dances as well as workshops to provide instruction in folk arts to community members.

Athens Symphony Orchestra
A community orchestra founded in 1978.

Athens Youth Symphony
The Athens Youth Symphony is comprised of elementary, middle, and high school musicians from Athens-Clarke County and the surrounding counties.

Lyric League
The Athens-based Lyric League is a 20-person chorus comprised of singers from Clarke, Oconee, Barrow, Jackson, Elbert and Hall counties.

Neighborhood Groups

Citizens for Healthy Neighborhoods
A coalition of neighborhood associations which includes King, Cobbham, Oglethorpe, Boulevard, Sunset, Holman, Pulaski Heights, and Five Points.

Friends of Five Points
The mission of this neighborhood association is to enhance the quality of residential life in and around the Five Points area of Athens.

Historic Boulevard Neighborhood Association
An association of Boulevard Area residents that provides a forum for discussion, organization, and action related to community, political, and social issues affecting the neighborhood.

Over the River Neighborhood Association
A neighborhood association working to involve and empower residents on issues relating to gentrification, affordable housing, and building community.

People of Hope
A non-profit organization working to develop Georgia’s first permanently affordable, resident designed, and resident controlled mobile home community. Founded by low-income families who have been displaced as mobile home parks have shut down.


Parenting

Athens Baby Space
The mission of Athens Baby Space is to increase the number of doulas currently available in the Athens region while educating new parents-to-be about the benefits of having a doula during and after the birth of their baby.

Athens Mothers Center
A non-profit organization for mothers offering discussion and activity groups, parenting education, social events, and information about community resources.

La Leche League of Greater Athens
An international non-profit organization dedicated to providing education, information, support, and encouragement to women who want to breastfeed.

Athens Community Council on Aging
Offers various services which enrich the lives of elders in the 12-county NE Georgia area. ACCA's programs enable older persons to live independently at home and provide opportunities for employment, volunteerism, and continued learning.


Sexual Assault

Project Safe
A local non-profit organization assisting women and their children who are victims of domestic violence or sexual assault. Provides a safe shelter, a 24-hour hotline, support groups, children's programs, and community outreach.


Substance Abuse

Athens Area Alcoholics Anonymous
A fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength, and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism.

Healing Place of Athens
Helps men who are addicted to alcohol and drugs achieve productive, independent, and sober lives by providing an overnight shelter, a residential recovery program, transitional and permanent housing and services, and an aftercare program.

Overcomers Ministries
A Christian recovery program for men, women, and families suffering from addiction, life-controlling dependencies, or other destructive behavioral patterns.


Technology

Free IT Athens
A non-profit community advocate for fair and open technology in Athens, working to provide access to information technology resources at minimal or no cost.


Theatre

Athens Community Theatre / Town & Gown Players
Town & Gown, the oldest community theatre company in Athens, has produced since 1953 and made its home in the Athens Community Theatre since 1968.

Athens Creative Theatre
A non-profit community theatre serving Athens since 1966. Athens Creative Theatre is a unit of the Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department.

Athens Little Playhouse
Provides theatrical training for youth and stages both drama & musical productions.

Rose of Athens Theatre

Athens Area Council of Real Estate Appraisers
An organization of appraisers in the Athens-Clarke County area who have joined together to promote good business ethics and higher educational standards for the real estate appraisal profession.

Athens Area Home Builders Association
A trade association representing the building industry in Clarke, Oconee, Madison, and Oglethorpe counties. Strives to create a favorable climate for quality, affordable construction to assure a positive economic future for the community.

Athens Society for Human Resource Management
A non-profit society of human resource professionals representing business, government, and education.


Transportation

BikeAthens
Promotes transportation and land-use policies that improve alternative modes of transportation, including pedestrian, cycling, and public transit options. The mission of BikeAthens is to make alternative transportation a practical, convenient, and safe option for all citizens of Athens-Clarke County.

WatchDawgs
A student-volunteer organization working to increase the safety of UGA students by providing students with a safe, free ride home on Thursday through Saturday nights from 10 pm to 3 am
